Personalized Storage:  Using USB Flash Drives on Campus

Information for Employees and Students

Sample USB Flash Drive

LSUE encourages the use of USB flash drives by faculty and students rather than traditional floppy disks or CD/DVD media.  These new drives are small, inexpensive, and easy to use.

However, due to the number of different drives on the market it is impossible to install drivers for every vendor's drive.  Most manufacturers employ universal drivers allowing their products to be recognized by any Windows XP computer without having to install additional software.  Some employ proprietary hardware that require specific drivers be installed before the unit can be used.

For use on campus it is recommended that you purchase one of the pre-tested units available in the bookstore.  They are inexpensive and can be acquired with your financial aid or by departmental charge.

myLSUE - Your Personalized Connection to the Campus

myLSUE Kiosk

myLSUE provides faculty, staff, and students with personalized, online access to the campus.  Students receive accounts upon acceptance to the university.  Access information is mailed as part of the admissions packet.  Faculty and staff access is granted during the employment process.

From Advising to Email, it can all be found in myLSUE.  For additional information you can click below or contact our office.

RESNET - Bengal Village Internet Access

Internet service is provided to the residents of Bengal Village as a free service by the university.  Reports of outages should be made to the Bengal Village Office at 550-7800

While having an always-on, high speed connection to the Internet has many advantages, it also opens your computer up to many new threats such as viruses, worms, trojans, and other malicious software. To combat the problem, all computers attached to the network are required to run some form of anti-virus software. Additionally, it is required that you proactively keep this software updated. If your anti-virus package contains an auto-update feature, make sure it is enabled. For those that do not currently have adequate virus protection, one possible free alternative is listed at the bottom of this page.

Keep your Computer Updated and Virus Free.

Residents should also keep their operating systems patched and updated to protect against possible vulnerabilities. Windows users can do this through the Windows Update Feature.

All Resident Computers MUST use Updated Antivirus Software.  If you do not have updated antivirus software on your PC we recommend AVG by GRI. The AVG Anti-Virus System is a free program that provides excellent protection for your data against viruses. AVG loads a resident virus shield that monitors your system continually.

Residents should visit the 24X7 Online Helpdesk for answers to questions related to connectivity issues.
